Sam is a neutered 2-year-old, 16-lb Chihuahua/Min Pin mix who came from an animal shelter (Swampy Paws) in Louisiana that was destroyed by Hurricane Isaac.

Sam is a happy, playful little boy who is full of energy and would love to find a home with a runner. He also loves stuffed animals and rawhides. He sometimes spends his entire evening relaxing and chewing on a bone. He loves everyone and everything: people, kids, cats and dogs. His best friend is his foster kitty sister, Millie, who he likes to play Hide and Go Seek with with. He's a bit shy when he first meets someone, but he warms up very quickly. Sammie splits his time between playing and napping. He will take a nap anytime, anywhere. And if you sit down on the couch or in any chair, be prepared to have a lap mate. Sammie loves to be held and petted and talked to. He is a very sweet, loving little boy who will lick you in your face if you let him. Sam is 100% crate trained and nearly house broken. He also is excellent walking on a leash.

Sam is currently undergoing heartworm treatment but that will be over soon and then he will be read for his forever family! We are currently accepting applications for Sam and is able to meet families while he is finishing up his treatment. We would like to send out a special thanks to Sam's sponsors, Chris Scheid and Swampy Paws, who have come together to cover all of the expenses for Sam while he is in foster care! If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out our application here: http://www.agaperescue.org/ApplyOnlineNew.php

If you are interested in adopting a dog from Agape, here is what you can expect. On average we spend $350+ per dog while they are in foster care with us, but the adoption fee is typically only $175.00 per dog. Our dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and all other medical needs have been taken care of. Many times the dogs we rescue require over $1,000 in medical bills, but the adoption fee remains the same.

After you?ve decided to learn more about a potential dog for your family, you should fill out the application: http://www.agaperescue.org/ApplyOnlineNew.php. This will help us help you make the best match for your family and lifestyle! After we receive your application, we will ask and answer any questions that may be relevant, and set up a time for your family to meet your potential forever friend! Please understand that our foster parents all work full time jobs and foster on a volunteer basis. We will do the best we can to accommodate everyone?s schedules when setting up times to meet a dog. If you decide to move on to the next step in the adoption process, we will work out a time to bring the dog to your house for a home visit. Don?t worry; this is not a white glove test to see how many times you dust per week. This is simply an opportunity for everyone to see the dog in your environment to make sure this is the right decision, and that the dog is a good fit for your family. We never want to pressure a family into adopting a dog, so you are welcome to take a night or two to think things over before committing to adoption. If your family falls head over heels in love with the dog, and we feel like the dog is a great fit for your family, then of course we will schedule a day for your new best friend to come back for his permanent adoption into your home! You will be provided with all medical records, reading material to help you with the transition period, and a standard adoption contract.

We appreciate that you are considering a rescued dog, as we have many on the waiting list needing our services, and they all deserve amazing forever homes! When you adopt from Agape you save two lives: the one you adopt, and the one that we are able to bring into our program because you have opened up a spot in foster care!
